Terengganu is a fairly conventional state with strong Islamic sentiments but its off coast islands are some of Malaysia’s premier retreats. The state is best known as the home of the Perhentian Islands and Pulau Redang – off-coast islands popular for their spectacular snorkelling and diving. Pulau Lang Tengah (one of the state’s lesser-known isles) is catching up and is one of the few islands to offer good accommodation options. Since most of Terengganu’s islands are uninhabited atolls that specialise as private beach resort retreats, accommodation choices are quite limited. Redang and Lang Tengah are the places to head to if you’re looking for a luxury experience while Gemia, the Perhentians and even Kuala Terengganu’s beaches are best for those looking for a beachside affair at an affordable price.
