Where to Stay in Kijal Beach

A small town towards Terengganu’s south, Kijal doesn’t really register as a stopover on the mainstream tourism scene. However, it’s a great vacation spot, due to its isolated and bucolic locale, and is mostly known to backpackers and locals. Housed in a strongly Islamic state, the small town has seen little development over the years – the sight of fisherman mending their nets by the docks and kids flying wau (kites) are ubiquitous. The only hotel in this area is the Awana Kijal Golf & Beach Resort – a three-star venture that’s spread across 800 acres. Besides air-conditioned rooms with attached bathrooms, the hotel’s list of facilities includes a private beach, an outdoor swimming pool, archery range, a tennis court and two Jacuzzis.
