Where to Stay in Port Dickson
Editor's Guide to Recommended Hotels in Port Dickson
Halfway between Kuala Lumpur and Melaka and approximately 34km southwest of Seremban, Port Dickson (PD) is a port town-cum-beach resort that is a popular weekend spot for locals. The state government’s efforts to improve the town’s aesthetic appeal have paid off as the beach, which was once notorious as a rubbish-laden strip, is now clean and litter free and as a result there’s more tourist traffic than ever. The town centre itself is little more than a few shops and banks, but there’s a good spread of accommodation options ranging from budget deals for the backpacker-savvy crowd, family-friendly mid-range ventures and luxury properties for the more up-market clientele.
Thistle Port Dickson
Easily topping our Editor’s Guide to Port Dickson is the sprawling and luxurious Thistle Port Dickson. Spread across 90 acres of award-winning landscaped grounds with manicured lawns, the five-star Thistle is set in the refurbished Guoman Resort and is one of PD’s newer hotels. Reminiscent of a secluded Los Angeles establishment with a gently sloping driveway and a private three km beach, the resort has 251 air con rooms with Wi-Fi, attached bathrooms, 32-inch flat-screen TVs and private balconies. Hotel facilities include a nine-hole golf course, an outdoor swimming pool, a kid’s wet play-zone, three restaurants, a fitness centre, two tennis courts and nine meeting rooms. Given Port Dickson’s relatively small dimensions you’re never too far from its list of sightseeing spots, dining venues and nightlife.
Ancasa AllSuites Resort Port Dickson
Right on the beach, Ancasa Allsuites Resort is a high rise mid-range venture that’s steadily becoming a top pick with visitors to Port Dickson. Popular with families as well as those looking to keep an eye on those purse strings, the hotel is well tended and offers 135 one-, two- and three-bedroom spacious, air con apartment units with separate dining and living areas, attached bathrooms and private balconies. The beachfront hotel’s facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, five function rooms, a garden, an on-site spa, a kid’s playroom, two restaurants and a karaoke lounge. The property is only a short walk from a good beach – Teluk Kemang – as well as restaurants that offer cheap food. Read More...
Eagle Ranch Resort
With Malay-style huts dotting its grounds Eagle Ranch Resort is a mid-range venture that’s easy on the eye and offers affordable rates. Spread across 28 acres, the three-star property has a wide range of accommodation options including kampung houses, log cabins, paddock chalets, tepees and dormitories. Lodgings feature air conditioning, fans and attached bathrooms (except in dormitories). The resort’s facilities are limited – there’s no business centre or Wi-Fi – but there’s an outdoor swimming pool and the hotel’s services include paintball, abseiling, horse riding, archery, water polo activities and more. A mangrove-fringed beach is a short walk away and Thistle Port Dickson is its next door neighbour with Tiara Bistro & Café just down the road. Read More...
Avillion Port Dickson
Resembling a traditional Malay fishing village, Avillion Port Dickson is a four-star beach resort. A wealth of lush greenery ranging from birds of paradise, lily ponds, bromeliads and palms defines the resort’s beautiful landscape. The waterfront property is spread across 23 acres of land and offers 300 lodging options, the highlight of which are over-the-water chalets that have large terraces you can swim from at high tide. Even the most inexpensive sea-facing air-con rooms feature hardwood floors, spacious four-poster beds, wooden furnishings and fixtures, attached flagstone bathrooms, flat-screen TVs, large windows, day beds and private balconies. Hotel facilities include two swimming pools (one with water slides), a tennis court, gym, sauna and six restaurants and bars including the Jungle Fringe Karaoke & Bar. Nearby nightspots include Rhapsody Lounge and El Cactus Bistro & Bar which are located just up the road.
Avillion Admiral Cove
Another one of Port Dickson’s deluxe properties, Avillion Admiral Cove is a four-star beachfront property that resembles a sprawling Havana mansion. Located along the fifth mile of PD’s strip of beachside, the hotel has 156 air-con rooms with living rooms, spacious beds, flat-screen TVs, day beds, pantries, attached bathrooms and private balconies. Spread over 23 acres of land, hotel facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, two tennis courts, a gym, kid’s playroom, restaurant, a bar with free Wi-Fi as well as two main conference rooms. The establishment faces a marina and Teluk Kemang – one of the best beaches in PD – is only a short walk away. Read More...
Corus Paradise Resort
Situated on the beach, Corus Paradise Resort is a massive, elegant resort on a calm bay. Though the family-friendly venture’s 200 air con rooms are not deluxe, the comfy beds and clean attached bathrooms more than make up for it and brings the property up to par. Hotel facilities are sufficient and include four restaurants and bars, a gym, tennis and squash courts, six meeting rooms and an arcade centre. With a protected artificial lagoon, the open-concept property also boasts a generous outdoor swimming pool with water slides and a good, low-key stretch of white sand beach. Read More...
