Johor stashes its island treasures off its eastern coast, but we'd
really like you to know that they are Pulau Rawa, Pulau Sibu, Pulau
Tinggi, Pulau Besar, Pulau Tengah and Pulau Pemanggil floating amid
the clear blue waters of the South China Sea. And amidst the bright
glitter of these floating jewels, you'll also find the blue-green
gems of Desaru and Air Papan
Desaru
Desaru,
the Village of Casuarinas, is undisputedly, the state's premier
beach resort. The crystal waters of the age-old South China Sea
lap this fabulous 25 km stretch of sandy beach, making it just
the thing for relaxation and carefree fun like catamaran cruising,
fishing, snorkelling, windsurfing, boating, canoeing, swimming
and even jungle trekking
This spot of paradise has three luxurious hotels - the aptly
named Desaru Golden Beach Resort, the dream-like Desaru Impian,
and the splendid Desaru Perdana Beach Resort
Golf enthusiasts can amuse themselves on the fabulous international
18-hole course there. A place for anglers to take note of is the
Fishermen's Museum at the fishing village of Tanjung Balau nearby,
with its absorbing collection of fishing traps, tackles and floats.
Air Papan
A splendid picnic area lies in the form of Air Papan beach.
This lovely stretch is also the venue of the exciting "Pesta Air
Papan" celebrated every 1st of May, which draws the crowds by
the thousands.
Pulau Jawa
Pulau
Rawa is a really beautiful island wonderfully covered with white
coral sand shaded by tall palm trees. The island has many fascinating
caves made for exploration and divine offshore coral reefs brightly
lit by the many neon-coloured fishes and unusual marine life.
And the breathtaking Rawa Island Resort, set amid all these,
make Pulau Rawa a haven for fishing, scuba-diving, shell-collecting,
lobster-hunting and underwater photography.
Pulau Besar
Close
to Pulau Rawa is the amiable Pulau Besar, literally "Big Island".Blissful
and secluded isle has beautifully private stretches of soft beaches,
glistening blue waters and marvellous coral reefs.
It is no wonder that fishing, scuba diving, swimming, snorkelling
and island hopping in Pulau Besar are so delightful. This simply
enchanting island plays host to a number of international hotels
and resorts armed with charming rooms or chalets and great restaurants
Pulau Besar's beauty is well-matched with the luxuries and smiles
offered by the alluring Radin Island Resort, the idyllic Nirwana
Island Resort and the sparkling White Sand Beach Resort.
Pulau Sibu
Pulau
Sibu is a tropical paradise and heavenly getaway with unbelievably
clean white beaches, sun-warmed waters and rich marine life. Pulau
Sibu's seascape is dotted by numerous sea caves carved out of
rocks. And its waters hide marvellous coral reefs and mysterious
shipwrecks of Chinese junks and pirate boats.
But Pulau Sibu, whether under the warm sun or romantic starlight,
offers the luxury and romance of the Sea Gypsy Village Resort,
and the ultimate perfection of the Sibu Islands Cabanas. Relax,
sunbathe, swim, scuba dive, snorkel, fish, windsurf, boat and
cruise to the musical pounding of the island's waves.
Pulau Tengah
Pulau Tengah was gazetted as a Marine Park for the sake of its
abundant marine life and rare species of fish and coral. Don't
be surprised by the giant leatherback turtles, which come ashore
to lay eggs every year. This sanctuary even offers visitors spacious
and comfortable cottages.
Pulau Tinggi
Rising
a majestic 667m above the level of the sea, is the wonder of Pulau
Tinggi. This comically conical-shaped isle was nicknamed the "General's
Hat Island" by long ago Chinese seamen.
Its seemingly endless coastline and white beaches interspersed
with secret caves made it an important stopover for spice traders
and smugglers of more than 600 years past. Nature endowed Pulau
Tinggi with cool fresh water, a sheltered harbour, laden fruit
trees, masses of useful rattan and loads of timber.
And now Pulau Sibu can also boast of the terrific Nadia's Inn
Tropical Resort, beautifully set against seas full of colourful
corals, friendly fishes and other charming undersea creatures.
Pulau Pemanggil
The
captivating Pulau Pemanggil is a treasure trove of fine sandy
beaches, hilly terrain and rich marine life. Pulau Aur is another
island simply perfect with secluded lagoons and offshore pools
made for privacy and fun water sports.
Suffice to say, Johor's islands are simply suitable for luxury
and fun with excellent scuba diving, snorkelling, windsurfing,
sailing and lots more!
