Terengganu has the marvel of Pulau Redang, located 50 kilometres
off the coast of Kuala Terengganu. It is no exaggeration to say
that it is one of the most beautiful islands in Malaysia, with offerings
of crystal clear waters, pearly white shores, colourful array of
marine life under exhilarating waves, breathtaking sunsets and mature
coral gardens. Pulau Redang is such a lovely place to be that even
tourists from Kuala Lumpur find themselves here for the sun, sea,
wind and underwater fun.
Meanwhile,
the fabulous Pulau Perhentian, 21kilometres off Terengganu's coast
actually consist of the two islands of Perhentian Besar and Perhentian
Kecil. Pulau Perhentian is surrounded by lush jungles, graceful
palms, fine sandy beaches, warm sapphire waters, and colourful coral
gardens.
A trip to this lush and exotic place in the tropics is a must for
those into scuba diving, snorkelling, deep sea fishing, swimming,
wind surfing, sailing, boating, and canoeing. It is also a prominent
marine paradise in Malaysia.
Marang is an extremely quaint fishing village. It welcomes visitors
with tall swaying coconut trees, cool fresh air, an incredibly beautiful
lagoon and a fleet of fishing trawlers. Anyone would be easily captivated
by its natural beauty and simplicity.
Adding
variety to Terengganu's fishing villages is Kijal, a small, quiet
and quaint fishing village north of Kemaman town. It is a sanctuary
for peace and solitude, and visitors can while away the time watching
fishing fleets returning with the day's catch, fishermen mending
nets or attending to their boats, amid the refreshingly cool sea
air.
Pulau Duyung is a famous boat building ground in the state, where
one can see boats being made by skilled boat builders who still
built their vessels using the skills of their forefathers.
Boat building is a form of art in Terengganu, so expect the builders
take pride in their skill and handiwork. But they really are unique,
working entirely from memory and experience without any set plans!
Pulau Duyung is also popular for its dried and salted fish, and
fish crackers industries, so remember to sample some of these tasty
goodies.
